Recommended by my godson who went through Authentik for Canada and West USA in a caravan, we (parents and 2 boys aged 18 & 21) loved the USA west coast which made it possible to satisfy everyone's sensitivities (Nature or urban environment - Authentic or kitsch galore). The downsides (because you need them otherwise it's not funny):
- Hotel mammoth moutain inn at Mammoth lake in a winter sports resort (low season for them) - 8 p.m. = curfew in the "city" => no restaurant, complete darkness - Hotel restaurant closed at 9 p.m. = > no more place to eat, we fall back on a dessert as a meal. We slept in a motel-type room (to see if it wasn't rather a well-equipped condo room planned) isolated in the basement next to the underground car park (a sign tells us not to leave food because of the bear!) - Wake up call and breakfast: no dish below 15€, no buffet and an interminable wait. Frozen sweets and duplicate order received. Positive point: Swimming pool and 4 Jacuzzis.
- Mammoth lakes (Again him) - Hilltop hot springs not found. The secret is actually well kept by locals and on the web. Provide a more precise gps point to access it.
